Education: Jared S. Nielsen, M.D., received his bachelor of sciences degree from Brigham Young University. He then earned his masters degree in pathology and doctorate of medicine from the Chicago Medical School.
Residency: Following an internship at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, Hawaii, he completed an ophthalmology residency at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Nielsen completed a vitreoretinal surgery fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, where he remains a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology.
Special Practice Interests: Fellowship-trained retina specialist, focusing on diabetic eye disorders, macular degeneration and surgical repair of the retina.
Dr. Nielsen is an active researcher and participates in clinical trials designed to provided better care to patients who suffer from sight threatening retinal diseases. He is engaged as an investigator in the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCR.net), a National Eye Institute coordinated effort to study diabetic eye disease. He is also working on additional studies to investigate treatments for other retinal conditions including: central serous chorioretinopathy, macular degeneration, and ocular histoplasmosis.
