Festival of Trees

Design Show | Tour of Homes | Morning with Santa | Sponsors | Display Hosts | Specials!

The calendar soon turns over to November, drawing us nearer to the holidays and to help arouse the spirit of the season, Festival of Trees is back to provide fun for all ages. The 2010 Festival of Trees, sponsored by the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation, will be November 11-13th with several returning favorite activities along with a new twist.

“Last year we announced we were transitioning our Festival of Trees to a biannual event and promised to come back with some new and fun twists and we have,” commented Susan Zulk, a FOT (Festival of Trees) committee member. “Our biggest change this year is location. Previously we used the Clay County Regional Events Center which was great. However, this year we wanted to try something new and partner with the business community for a little more exposure of what Spencer has to offer. Instead of the displays being in one location, many area businesses are either putting up their own display within their business or hosting a display created by a local organization or individual.”

“We really appreciate the enthusiasm of those participating and encourage everyone to make an effort to go see all the various displays,” commented Vanessa Moore, FOT committee member. “Look for more information to come on those various displays. And, if someone would still like to decorate a tree or create a table setting, we have businesses very willing to hosts displays so please give us a call.”

In addition to the festive displays, FOT events include the Holiday Design Show on Thursday evening, Nov. 11th, at Spencer Hospital; Morning with Santa on Saturday, Nov. 13th at Spencer Community Theatre, and the Tour of Homes, also on Saturday, Nov. 13th.

Proceeds from Festival events benefit the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation whose mission is to enhance healthcare services in our region. Our Festival funds focus on enhancing women’s health services.

Holiday Design Show

A “Holiday Design Show” is slated for Thursday evening, Nov. 11, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Spencer Hospital. Guests who would like to come early are invited to stop by the hospital’s Auxiliary Gift Shop which is having a holiday sale beginning at 5 p.m. The Gift Shop will be open during the Design Show and afterwards until 8 p.m…. or as long as shoppers require!

“The Design Show promises to be a lot of fun,” commented Jeannette Hasley, who also is a FOT committee member. “We will have three Creation & Learning Stations where our guests can either create different holiday items which they then get to take home with them or learn more about how to make certain projects. The Creation Stations will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., then at 6:30 we will have two designers, Del’s Garden Center and Tori Rasmussen, each give demonstrations on how to create some wonderful holiday décor.”

Guests will enjoy festive appetizers while they mingle throughout the evening. Tickets for the Holiday Design Show are $15 each and are available in advance and at the door.

Tour of Homes

The Holiday Tour of Homes is an extremely popular event. It will take place on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. People will have the opportunity to enjoy a self-tour of five festively decorated homes in the Spencer area.

Tour will feature homes of:

  • Dr. Jason & Josie Hough
  • Rolf & Val Mosbo

Morning with Santa

Kids and parents alike enjoy "Morning with Santa" which will be held Saturday, November 13, from 9-11 a.m. at the newly renovated Spencer Community Theatre.

The event will feature several stations providing fun for the whole family, and, of course, the highlight of the morning is the visit with Santa. We encourage parents to bring their cameras to capture that moment when their child is visiting with Santa. In the past, we took and printed photos; however, we understand that many people prefer to have the photo captured on their own camera so they can make extra prints, e-mail to friends, or add to photo books.

A few of Santa’s elves will be on hand to help children with their craft project, provide each child with a temporary holiday tattoo, entertain at the North Pole Reading Corner, decorate cookies, and mix up some delicious Snowman Soup. The ticket price is $5 per child. Adult supervision is required (no charge to accompanying adults).
