The Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit provides care for patients with a variety of needs. As the name of the unit implies, patients who have undergone major surgical procedures spend their first few days recovering under the care of the Medical/Surgical staff. Also, patients hospitalized for a variety of medical reasons from pneumonia to injuries are typically cared for on the Med/Surg Unit. 

Each patient’s physician oversees his or her care. In addition to the Med/Surg Nursing staff, patients and families often work with experts from many hospital departments including Social Services, Nutrition Services, Rehabilitation Services, Laboratory, Pharmacy and Radiology.
