The Spencer Hospital Laboratory is a highly automated and complex lab, staffed 24 hours per day. State-of-the-art instrumentation is evident in all areas of the laboratory, including microbiology, hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and the blood bank.

With most testing performed in-house, the laboratory staff recorded an all-time high 244,784 tests in fiscal year 2004 and supplied 873 blood products for transfusions, supporting plans of care for both hospital in-patients and out-patients. In addition to that testing, the laboratory serves the commercial industry by being a certified drug and alcohol collection facility and taking part in numerous health fairs in the community throughout the year. 

The laboratory has successfully been granted a CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act) certificate of compliance and voluntarily participates in the American Association of Blood Bank’s quality certification program.  The true assets, leading to the success of the laboratory, are the ten employees who have an aggregate 181 year of experience at the Spencer Hospital!
