    Community Health Services
    Community Health Services encompasses a myriad of services, all focused on keeping people healthy and meeting their needs within the community. The Community Health Services office is located on the second floor on the Spencer Medical Arts Building, just south of Spencer Hospital.  Please contact Community Health at (712) 264-8300 ext. 6380 for any of the services listed below.          
    Clay County Public Health - Clay County Public Health works in partnership with agencies in Clay County and the Iowa Department of Public Health to prepare and respond to health related emergencies or disasters. Clay County Public Health is also focused on wellness and prevention. Health prevention activities are accomplished by several programs including weekly Childhood Immunization Clinics held each Tuesday and Wednesday, weekly blood pressure screenings, participation in the Childhood Lead Poisoning Program, and much more. 

    Home Health Services – Skilled nursing is provided to clients in their homes for acute or chronic illness. Home Health nurses provide direct care - such as changing dressing on wounds, drawing blood, giving injections, etc. – as well as educate their patients about their illness and treatment, and provide nursing assessments.

    Hospice of Spencer Hospital– Hospice is a comprehensive program of care and support for terminally ill patients and their families when aggressive treatment to obtain a cure is no longer deemed appropriate. A team of health professionals and lay volunteers work together with the patient and family. Please click on this link to learn more about our hospice services: Hospice of Spencer Hospital. Hospice of Spencer Hospital is a non-profit association which has served northwest Iowans for more than 20 years.

    Homemaker/Home Health Aides – Certified Homemaker-Home Health Aides provide a variety of services for patients in their homes such as personal care and hygiene, light housekeeping and laundry, meal planning and preparation, and grocery shopping.

    Immunization Clinic - Clay County Public Health provides immunization clinics for childhood as well as adult vaccination programs. For information and appointments, please call (712) 264-8300 ext. 6685.
    Maternal and Child Health – Maternal & Child Health Nurses provide counseling and education to expectant parents. Check our calendar for a list of upcoming classes. Follow-up home visits are also made to new parents and babies, and health education is provided for children at preschool and school facilities.     Health Promotion – Community Health Nurses and Registered Dietitians provide health education to the public at work sites, schools, health fairs, and group meetings. Wellness screenings are offered to the public regularly. The focus is on prevention and education to help people make wise health decisions.
