AMLS Update

PURPOSE:

This course emphasizes the use of scene size-up, history, interactive group discussion on potential treatment strategies, and physical exam to systematically rule out and consider possibilities and probabilities in treating patients’ medical crises. The course offers an initial assessment-based approach that progresses to a diagnostic-based approach to quickly develop the best treatment plan.

INTENDED AUDIENCE:  

For all levels of practitioners with a strong commitment to patient care, including EMTs, Paramedics, Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurse Anesthetists and Physicians.

PRE-REQUISITE:

1.Pre-Course Self-Assessment

a.Pick up the required text and pretest from HRD prior to class.

b.Complete the pretest prior to class. 

c.Bring the completed pretest with you to class.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Participants will self-report knowledge of AMLS and demonstrate their understanding of AMLS by successfully completing the posttest with a score of 75% or greater.

OBJECTIVES:

Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:

1.Identify and manage life-threatening presentations for a variety of medical

emergencies, while considering comprehensive patient history, focused physical exam, and diagnostic findings.

2.Demonstrate with proficiency the application of the AMLS Assessment Pathway to determine appropriate differential diagnoses and management strategies.

3.Compare and contrast the concepts of clinical decision-making, pattern recognition, and clinical reasoning used in the determination of differential diagnoses.

Payment Note:
REGISTRATION FEE $165 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes AMLS text). No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have director approval to attend. Refund Policy: Full refund (minus a $95 handling fee) is given if a cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24-hour notice is given.
