PURPOSE: This course is designed to increase understanding and knowledge regarding vestibular diagnosis and treatment. Insights into how physical therapy can effectively address issues related to dizziness and balance disorders will be discussed.
INTENDED AUDIENCE: Nurses, EMS Providers, Physical Therapists and other interested healthcare providers
OBJECTIVES: Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
- Explain what Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is.
- Discuss the symptoms of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).
- Identify and describe basic vestibular anatomy.
- Identify symptoms that may be similar to vertigo and discuss how patients may describe these symptoms.
- Explain testing/assessment procedures for BPPV.
- Discuss vestibular infrared goggles and how they are used to assess and treat BPPV.
- Describe how the HINTS test can be used to rule out central causes of vertigo.
