PURPOSE:
This course is being offered to update experienced American Heart Association BLS Instructors.
INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Experienced American Heart Association BLS instructors wishing to renew their instructor status.
PRE-REQUISITE:
1. Taught four AHA BLS courses in the past two years.
2. Have a current AHA BLS Instructor Certification Card.
3. Have an affiliation with an AHA Approved Training Center.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participants will self-report knowledge of American Heart Association BLS Instructor principles, responsibilities and requirements following AHA BLS guidelines.
Participants will demonstrate their understanding of AHA BLS Instructor guidelines, successfully completing the skills testing and course exam.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Demonstrate
- Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manuals
- Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing
INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD:
AHA BLS Instructor eCard will be issued upon completion of:
1. Successful completion of the BLS Instructor Renewal Course
- Successful completion of the BLS Instructor Exam and the BLS Provider Exam
- Successful completion of the BLS Skills Test
2. Class monitoring is complete and documented
- Monitoring opportunities to be held following the Instructor Renewal Courses from 12:30pm to 4:30pm
- Monitoring can be scheduled with the AHA Training Center you are aligned with
REGISTRATION FEE:
$150 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes AHA BLS Instructor Manual) Note: Fee does not include the Heartsaver Instructor Manual which may be purchased for an additional fee through the Spencer Hospital HRD Dept.
$95 for those who have access to the required AHA BLS Instructor Manual. No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have HRD approval to attend.
Refund Policy: Full refund (minus a $90 handling fee) is given if a cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24-hour notice is given. Spencer Hospital reserves the right to cancel this program if there is insufficient enrollment. In this event, every attempt will be made to notify enrollees prior to the event.
FACULTY:
American Heart Association BLS Training Center Faculty of Spencer Hospital are scheduled to conduct these classes throughout the year.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Nurses: A certificate of attendance will be provided upon completion of the program. Retaining a program brochure as documentation of participation is strongly encouraged. Nurses determine whether course content meets the Iowa Board of Nursing’s criteria for appropriate continuing education.
EMTs: No CEH’s will be offered for this course.
