PALS Instructor Renewal

PURPOSE:
This course is being offered to update experienced American Heart Association PALS Instructors.


INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Experienced American Heart Association PALS instructors wishing to renew their instructor status.
 

PRE-REQUISITE:
1. Taught four AHA PALS courses in the past two years.
2. Have a current AHA PALS Instructor Certification Card.
3. Have an affiliation with an AHA Approved Training Center.
 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participants will self-report knowledge of American Heart Association PALS Instructor principles, responsibilities and requirements following AHA PALS guidelines.
Participants will demonstrate their understanding of AHA PALS Instructor guidelines, successfully completing the skills testing and course exam.
 

OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Demonstrate

  • Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manuals
  •  Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing

2. Exit Criteria

  • Instruct a group on the Megacode team concept
  • Successfully evaluate another student running a Megacode while correctly using the AHA PALS skills testing checklist
  • Successfully remediate another student

INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD:
AHA PALS Instructor eCard will be issued upon completion of:
1. Successful completion of the PALS Instructor Renewal Course

  • Successful completion of the PALS Instructor Exam and the PALS Provider Exam
  • Successful completion of the PALS Skills Test

2. Class monitoring is complete and documented

  • Monitoring opportunities to be held following the Instructor Renewal Courses from 12:30pm to 4:30pm
  • Monitoring can be scheduled with the AHA Training Center you are aligned with

FACULTY:
American Heart Association PALS Training Center Faculty of Spencer Hospital are scheduled to conduct these classes throughout the year.


CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Nurses:
A certificate of attendance will be provided upon completion of the program. Retaining a program brochure as documentation of participation is strongly encouraged. Nurses determine whether course content meets the Iowa Board of Nursing’s criteria for appropriate continuing education.
EMTs: No CEH’s will be offered for this course.

Payment Note:
$195 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes AHA PALS Instructor Manual) Note: Fee does not include the PEARS Instructor Manual which may be purchased for an additional fee through the Spencer Hospital HRD Dept. $125 for those who have access to the required AHA PALS Instructor Manual. No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have HRD approval to attend. Refund Policy: Full refund (minus a $90 handling fee) is given if a cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24-hour notice is given. Spencer Hospital reserves the right to cancel this program if there is insufficient enrollment. In this event, every attempt will be made to notify enrollees prior to the event. Checks can be made payable to the Spencer Hospital.
