INTENDED AUDIENCE:
Registered Nurses who care for trauma patients (at least 6 months of emergency care experience is recommended). Other interested individuals (non-RN) are eligible to attend the course except for the written and psychomotor evaluations. For this reason, they do not receive certification but are awarded contact hours.
PURPOSE:
This course provides core level trauma knowledge & psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. The goal of TNCC is to decrease the morbidity & mortality of the trauma patient by increasing the knowledge, skill and level of nursing care provided. The course is presented through lectures and interactive psychomotor skill stations. Verification of successful course completion is based on successfully passing the written exam and the Trauma Nursing Process (TNP) psycho motor skills stations.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
To successfully complete this program & receive TNCC Certification you must complete these items, in this order:
1. Complete the online TNCC 9th Edition Pre-Course Online Module.
After you have registered for this course through the Spencer Hospital HRD department you will receive an email notification with the link for accessing the TNCC Pre-Course Online Module – email addresses are required during the registration process.
Spencer Hospital employees will use their hospital email address.
Log into this link to create an account & complete the online modules.
You will not be able to attend the course without completing the Pre-Course Online Modules.
2 .Register & successfully complete a TNCC Skills Session.
3. Complete the Online Exam.
Students must access the exam within one week from the skills session end date.
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify the mechanisms of injury associated with trauma.
2. Describe the pathophysiologic changes as a basis for signs & symptoms.
3. Describe the nursing assessment of patients with trauma.
4. Describe the appropriate interventions for trauma patients.
5. Describe mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions for patients with trauma.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
A participant must complete the entire program to receive continuing education credit. Participants will have access to an electronic CE certificate and Provider Card, issued by the ENA.
TNCC is administered through the National Emergency Nurses Association. The ENA is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. The Emergency Nurses Association is approved by the California
Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #2322.
This 9th edition TNCC provider course has been approved for 19.5 nursing contact hours.
9.0 hours for Challengers.
17.5 hours for Non-Nurses.
REGISTRATION:
Registration & course fee must be received three weeks prior to the course. Pre-course reading and preparation is mandatory for this course, no drop-in registration is permitted. Course materials will be mailed once the registration form & payment have been received.

$320 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital (fee includes TNCC 9th Edition Provider Manual).
$240 for students who have access to the required text.
No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have director approval to attend as a required course. Those taking it as an elective with director approval will be responsible for the text fee ($80) and the ENA fee ($95).
Refund Policy: A 50% cancellation fee will be charged if your registration has been accepted
and the TNCC manual has been sent.
No refunds will be made for cancellations within one week of the course start date.
