PURPOSE:
This course is being offered to provide experienced American Heart Association PALS Providers with the opportunity to become an AHA PALS Instructor.
PRE-REQUISITE:
1. Accepted by an AHA Training Center (before enrolling in an AHA PALS Instructor Course)
2. Hold a current AHA Provider certification in the discipline of the Instructor Course, supply copy of the current AHA Provider card (front and back) and be proficient in all the skills of that discipline.
3. Complete the AHA PALS Instructor Essentials online course.
- Log onto the AHA Student Website: eLearning.heart.org
- Log into your AHA account.
- Once on the AHA student website, click on COURSES (upper left-hand corner).
- Select “Instructor Training”
- Select the current guideline version of “PALS Instructor Essentials Online”
- Purchase the online course, cost is $42.65
- Print a copy of the online completion certificate and bring it to the PALS New Instructor class with you.
- Willingness to teach a minimum of four AHA PALS courses in a two-year period
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
1. Demonstrate
- Proficiency in using the videos and lesson maps in the instructor manuals
- Use of the testing materials to conduct skills testing
2. Exit Criteria
- Instruct a group on the Megacode team concept
- Successfully evaluate another student running a Megacode while correctly using the AHA PALS skills testing checklist
- Successfully remediate another student
INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATION CARD:
AHA PALS Instructor eCard will be issued upon completion of:
1. Successful completion of the PALS New Instructor Course
- Successful completion of the PALS Instructor Exam
- Successful completion of the PALS Skills Test
2. Class monitoring is complete and documented.
- Monitoring must be completed before instructors can teach independently.
- Monitoring opportunity to be held following the Instructor Course 3/11/26 and 9/22/26 from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.
- Monitoring can be scheduled with the AHA Training Center you are aligning with.
3. AHA Instructor Network (AHA ATLAS)
- After completing the Instructor Course and claiming your Instructor eCard, align on the AHA Instructor Network (ATLAS).
FACULTY:
American Heart Association PALS Training Center Faculty of Spencer Hospital are scheduled to conduct these classes throughout the year.
CONTINUING EDUCATION:
Nurses: A certificate of attendance will be provided upon completion of the program. Retaining a program brochure as documentation of participation is strongly encouraged. Nurses determine whether course content meets the Iowa Board of Nursing’s criteria for appropriate continuing education.
EMTs: No CEH’s will be offered for this course.
Payment Note:
$270 for non-employees of Spencer Hospital
(fee includes AHA PALS Instructor Manual)
Note: Fee does not include the PALS Instructor Essentials course, this can be purchased online separately. Fee does not include the PEARS Instructor Manual which may be purchased for an additional fee through the Spencer Hospital HRD Dept.
$200 for those who have access to the required AHA PALS Instructor Manual.
No registration fee for employees of Spencer Hospital who have HRD approval to attend.
Refund Policy: Full refund (minus a $90 handling fee) is given if a cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24-hour notice is given. Spencer Hospital reserves the right to cancel this program if there is insufficient enrollment. In this event, every attempt will be made to notify enrollees prior to the event.
