PURPOSE
This course is designed to prepare participants to identify cardiac rhythm changes associated with myocardial dysfunction.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Healthcare providers expected to respond in situations when advanced cardiac life support is needed.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Participants will self report knowledge of Basic Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation, Electrical Therapies and Integration of Medication Administration following American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS algorithms.
Participants will demonstrate their understanding of Basic Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation, Electrical Therapies and Integration of Medication Administration following AHA ACLS algorithms by successfully completing the section quizzes with a score of 80% or greater.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:
1. Review anatomy, electrophysiology, normal sequence in activation of the conduction system and EKG wave forms.
2. Review the process of identifying arrhythmias, determination of:
Rate
Pattern Regularity
QRS Width
Recognition of Atrial Activity
Relation of P’s to QRS’s
3. Describe the characteristics of NSR and dysrhythmias:
Sinus
Atrial
Junctional
Ventricular
A-V Blocks
Demonstrate ability to accurately identify each dysrhythmia.
Describe the implications of each rhythm disturbances as it relates to the clinical status of the patient.

REGISTRATION
Participants must pre-register one week prior to class. Spencer Hospital employees register via Healthstream. Non employees register by calling 264-6117, or send form to Human Resource Development Department at Spencer Hospital. No drop-in registration is permitted.
FEES
No fee required for employees of Spencer Hospital who have Director approval to attend the course;
Non-employees & Spencer Hospital employees without Director approval to attend - $135
CANCELLATION
A full refund (minus a $50 handling fee) is given if cancellation notice is received less than one week prior to class. No refund if less than 24 hour notice is given.
Spencer Hospital reserves the right to cancel this program if there is insufficient enrollment. In this event, every attempt will be made to notify enrollees prior to the event.
CONTINUING EDUCATION
Nurses: 10.5 Contact Hours will be awarded by IBON provider #14 - Spencer Hospital.
EMT’s: CEH’s have been applied for through Iowa Lakes Community College.
Participants must attend the entire program and meet the course criteria to receive continuing education credit. Participants may only use a Basic Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation course once during their license renewal period.
