The Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation recently received a contribution of $2,800 in support of cancer care for the Abben Cancer Center. The gift was provided through proceeds raised during the annual Golf for a Cure tournament held May 4th at Emerald Hills Golf Club in Okoboji.

“This year was another great success,” said Donna Janssen, a two-time cancer survivor, who co-chairs the annual event with Judy Wendell and Kim Butler. “Whatever we can do to help those in need of cancer care is why we work so hard. We are lucky to have compassionate care so close to home.”

Funds provided to Abben Cancer Center will be used to purchase a Bi-Axial Arm Support System.

“These accessories for our breast-board will provide both arm and wrist support for our radiation patients,” explained Abben Cancer Center director, Melissa Cunningham. “This allows us to easily reproduce exact positioning for each treatment as well as providing a more comfortable experience.”

Since 2011, the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation has received more than $26,000 from the Golf for a Cure event in support of local cancer care.

“Events such as the Golf for a Cure demonstrate the remarkable power of working together,” commented Mindy Gress, Foundation Executive Director. “We are grateful to the organizers and supporters for what their generosity helps to provide our patients and communities.”

The Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation was founded in 1993 to facilitate community support for projects which benefit patients locally and enhance healthcare in our region provided through Spencer Hospital.
