While the holiday season is filled with celebrations and traditions, it’s also a time packed with memories for many who are struggling to connect with joy and cope with sadness after the death of a loved one. Hospice of Spencer Hospital's professional team is offering a special Holiday Grief Support Group to help provide comfort, understanding and coping skills.
“We offer grief support programs at various times in the year; however, we know the holidays can be an especially difficult time as special traditions are often associated with memories of loved ones who are no longer with us,” commented Chelsea Reed, social worker for Hospice of Spencer Hospital. “Also, sometimes the joyfulness of others can make our own sorrow feel more intense. Our support group will help acknowledge those feelings and provide skills for coping.”
The 5-week Holiday Grief Support Group will meet each Tuesday evening beginning November 20 through December 12 from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Spencer Hospital’s Women’s Resource Center.
Once the sessions start, the group will be closed to new participants. The course will be offered at various times each year to new groups. To register, please contact Hospice of Spencer Hospital at (712) 264-6380.
