Spencer Hospital has been recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) as an ACR Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center.

“Being an ACR Designated Lung Screening Center signifies that your facility provides these valuable screening services to your community at the highest standards of the radiation profession,” stated Scott Raber, MD, chairman of the Committee on CT Accreditation, in his notification letter to radiologist Dr. Charlie Crouch.

Dr. Crouch commented, “Our radiology group appreciates the professional, quality images secured by the diagnostic imaging technologists of Spencer Hospital. The endorsement of the ACR is an additional testament to the high quality provided.”

Lung cancer is the number one leading cause of cancer-related deaths in America, according to the American Lung Association. However, now there’s greater hope for a cure for lung cancer patients as a low-dose CT scan can detect lung cancer early, when it’s more likely to be treatable and curable. The American Lung Association reports that if the disease is caught before it spreads, the likelihood of surviving five years improves from 11 percent to 55 percent.

“Our diagnostic imaging team is excited we can offer this important screening which could save lives by detecting lung cancer in earlier, more treatable stages, and we are proud to have meet the quality criteria necessary for ACR designated,” commented Mary Brosnahan, director of diagnostic imaging. “Having ACR designation for our various programs demonstrates our commitment to quality.”

A physician’s order is required and to be eligible for most insurance plans to cover the screening costs, patients need to age 55 or older and either are or have been a heavy smoker for many years. Visit with your physician to determine if a lung cancer screening is right for you.
