Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Surgeons, in collaboration with Spencer Hospital, proudly announce a major milestone—completing over 1,500 knee and hip replacement surgeries utilizing the Mako Robotic Arm. The Mako system, acquired with the generous support of the Spencer Regional Healthcare Foundation in March 2022, has transformed joint replacement procedures by enhancing precision, improving patient outcomes, and expediting recovery.

Brenda Tiefenthaler, President of Spencer Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to state-of-the-art medical advancements and high-quality patient care. “At Spencer Hospital, we continuously invest in advanced technology to improve patient outcomes. Our exceptional orthopedic surgeons provide outstanding care, allowing patients to receive world-class joint replacement surgery right here in Spencer. There’s no need to travel far when expert orthopedic care is available close to home.”

Dr. Jason Hough, an orthopedic surgeon with Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Surgeons, emphasized the value of the collaboration with Spencer Hospital. “This partnership ensures our patients receive comprehensive, high-quality orthopedic care,” he said. Fellow orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Pick echoed that sentiment, noting, “With advanced tools like the Mako Robot, expert surgical teams, and excellent post-operative physical therapy at Spencer Hospital and its affiliated clinics, our patients benefit from exceptional results and a seamless recovery back to an active lifestyle.”

To further support patients undergoing total joint replacement, Spencer Hospital offers a Total Joint Replacement Class led by its Rehabilitative Professionals. This pre-surgery education program helps patients prepare for surgery and sets the foundation for a smooth recovery. Additionally, expert physical therapy services ensure patients regain mobility and return to their daily activities as quickly and safely as possible.
