New Student Vaccine Requirements for Upcoming School Year

Do you have a child entering 7th-12th grade?  Are they up to date with adolescent vaccines?  Iowa recently updated the immunization requirements within the Iowa Administrative Code.  These requirements become effective for the 2017-18 school year.  Your child WILL NOT be able to attend school next fall without proof of the REQUIRED vaccination(s).

Schedule your child's vaccination appointment with your physician's office or contact Clay County Public Health of Spencer Hospital at 264-3500 extension 6685. Also, nurses will be available during athletic physicals at Avera Medical Group Spencer (AMGS) and at Spencer Community Schools registration to give these important vaccines.  Parental consent is required.  Click here for a printable immunization consent form

The following information briefly outlines what is required and/or recommended:

Students Entering 7th Grade:

  • Tdap - Required for 7th grade enrollment
  • Meningococcal - Required for 7th grade enrollment
  • HPV-9 - Highly recommended

Students Entering 12th Grade:

  • Tdap - Catch up dose if not previously received
  • Meningococcal - Required for 12th grade enrollment. Most colleges now require this vaccine.
  • HPV-9 - Highly recommended. Catch up doses if not previously received.

All Other Teens:

  • Tdap - Catch up dose if not previously received
  • Meningococcal - Catch up dose if not previously received
  • HPV-9 - Highly recommended. Catch up doses if not previously received.
