Little Sadie Jo is stylishly dressed a cute onesie crafted by her mother which proclaims across the front: “Worth the wait.” Sadie’s parents, Jason and Ashley Selk of Peterson, waited just one day past their Jan. 3rd due date as their baby girl was born Friday, January 4, 2019. For Spencer Hospital’s Birth Center team, Sadie was the much anticipated first baby born at the hospital in 2019.

“I thought maybe there was a chance we would have the first baby of the year since I was due January 3,” Ashley said. The Selks had planned to keep busy and were going to go ice fishing Friday night but plans changed when Ashley went into labor.

“The birth center was busy through New Year’s Eve, then quieter these first few days of 2019, so our birth center team was delighted when Ashley and Jason arrived on Friday as our ‘first family’ for the year,” commented Susan Zulk, Spencer Hospital VP of Marketing & Fund Development.

Sadie was born at 8:20 PM, weighing 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and measuring 19.5 inches in length. She is Jason and Ashley’s first child. Grandparents are Londa and Gary Witte of Albert City and Terry and Jolene Selk of Peterson.

Ashley said they had Sadie’s name selected since learning on ultrasound day that they were going to have a baby girl. Ashley’s most memorable moment of her birth experience was first hearing Sadie’s long-awaited cry.

The Selks received a congratulatory gift basket compiled by items from Spencer area businesses including Ike & Leo, Spencer Main Street Co., Farmers Insurance, Spencer Municipal Utilities and Spencer Hospital Gift Shop.

Congratulations, Selk family!
