Upcoming Iowa Medicaid Changes: What You Need to Know

posted on Monday, October 26, 2026 in Public Notices

Changes to Iowa Medicaid may affect your healthcare coverage, renewal process, and eligibility requirements. Beginning December 1, 2026, certain Iowa Health and Wellness Plan members may need to meet new monthly work or community engagement requirements to maintain coverage. Requirements will vary by individual, and not all Medicaid members will be affected.

Spencer Hospital encourages Medicaid members to take steps now to prepare:

  • Keep your contact information current. Make sure Iowa HHS has your correct mailing address, phone number, and email address.
  • Watch for important notices. Check your mail, email, text messages, and Medicaid portal regularly. Respond promptly to any requests for information or renewal documents.
  • Understand what applies to you. Some members may need to document work, volunteer, job training, or educational activities. Others may qualify for an exemption.
  • Ask questions if you need help. Contact Iowa HHS at 1-877-347-5678, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or email CEoutreach@hhs.iowa.gov to learn more about the upcoming changes and what steps you may need to take.

Spencer Hospital encourages patients to be proactive and seek answers before deadlines approach. Taking time now to understand your coverage and respond to important notices can help you avoid unexpected interruptions in your healthcare benefits.
