Expanding Care: New Therapy & Mobility Services at Spencer Hospital

At Spencer Hospital Rehabilitative Services, we are always looking for ways to bring the latest and most effective therapy techniques to our patients. Two services we are especially excited to offer are Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization and Mobility Evaluations in partnership with Avera Home Medical Equipment of Spencer Hospital. Both are designed to help people feel better, move easier, and get the support they need without the burden of traveling far.
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization
While it may sound technical, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is simply a hands-on technique using specialized tools to treat soft tissue injuries. These tools come in different shapes and sizes, allowing us to target specific areas to help break down scar tissue, improve flexibility, and reduce pain.
This approach is effective for a wide range of patients – not just athletes. Whether someone is dealing with muscle strains, tension, tendinitis, or chronic pain, IASTM can provide relief and help restore movement. One of the added benefits is shorter treatment times that are just as effective as traditional manual soft tissue work.
Our team of therapists at Spencer Hospital and our satellite clinics have completed specialized training to provide IASTM. By offering this service locally, we are making advanced treatment more accessible so patients can recover faster and return to their daily routines sooner.
Mobility Evaluations in Partnership with Avera
In addition to therapy services, we also provide mobility evaluations – a service designed to match patients with the right mobility equipment for their needs at home. This could be a customized manual wheelchair, a power wheelchair, or another mobility aid that helps improve independence and quality of life.
We are proud to partner with Avera Home Medical Equipment to make this service possible. These evaluations can often be complex and time-consuming, sometimes taking up to three months from referral to insurance approval before equipment is delivered. By offering the evaluation process right here at Spencer Hospital, patients can get started sooner. From there, Avera coordinates with insurance providers and delivers the equipment directly, ensuring it fits properly and meets the patient’s needs.
How to Get Started
If you are interested in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, you can contact our Rehabilitation Services Department directly to schedule an appointment. In some cases, a referral from your medical provider may be needed depending on insurance requirements, and our team can guide you through that process.
For mobility evaluations, a referral from your medical provider is required. Once that is in place, we will handle the evaluation and work closely with Avera to take care of the rest.
You can reach us at 712-264-6189 with any questions or to schedule services.
At Spencer Hospital Rehabilitative Services, our mission is simple: to help you feel better, move better, and live better without having to travel far from home.
