Your Lungs Matter: Get Screened at Spencer Hospital

Your lungs work hard every day – it’s crucial to make sure they’re in healthy shape. At Spencer Hospital, our lung cancer screening program uses advanced low-dose CT scans to catch potential issues early, often before symptoms appear. Quick, non-invasive, and locally available, our screenings give you the best chance for early detection and peace of mind.

Lung cancer is a serious health concern, and early detection can make all the difference. Our Diagnostic Imaging department is recognized as a Designated Lung Cancer Screening Center by the American College of Radiology, meeting the highest quality and safety standards to provide reliable, accurate results.

Screenings are recommended for adults ages 50–80 who currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years, with at least a 20 pack-year smoking history. Additional risk factors include secondhand smoke, exposure to radon or asbestos, certain industrial chemicals, chronic lung conditions, or a family history of lung cancer.

If a scan shows anything abnormal, our trained radiologists review it carefully to guide the next steps, which may include follow-up imaging or consultation. For patients diagnosed with lung cancer, Abben Cancer Center provides comprehensive, personalized treatment. Our multidisciplinary team designs care plans that may include surgery, radiation, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or immunotherapy – which can typically be delivered right here in Spencer.

Beyond medical care, we provide emotional and personal support throughout the entire journey, including patient education, social work support, and monthly support groups. Many patients describe feeling like part of the Abben Family, a connection that makes a meaningful difference in care.
