Total Joint Replacement Class at Spencer Hospital
posted on Friday, August 21, 2026
Preparing for total joint replacement can feel overwhelming, but knowing what to expect can help you feel more confident. At Spencer Hospital, our free Total Joint Replacement Class helps patients and caregivers prepare for surgery, recovery, and the transition home.
Prepare for Surgery
During Total Joint Replacement class, we cover ways to prepare your body and home before surgery, what to expect on the day of surgery, and how to make your transition home as smooth as possible.
Know What to Expect During Recovery
We discuss physical therapy, mobility, pain management, exercises, and recovery milestones. We also help patients understand their role in recovery and when to reach out to their healthcare team with questions or concerns.
Caregivers Are Welcome
Caregivers are encouraged to attend, too. Learning how to support a loved one, prepare the home, and understand the recovery process can make the transition home easier for everyone.
A Team Approach to Care
The class was developed in partnership with Spencer Hospital Rehabilitative Services and the orthopedic surgeons at Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint and Sports Surgeons as part of our team approach to joint replacement care at Spencer Hospital.
Free and Convenient
The Total Joint Replacement Class is offered free on the second Thursday of each month, with both in-person and virtual options available. Pre-registration is required.
Whether you have surgery scheduled or are considering joint replacement in the future, the class is a great opportunity to learn, ask questions, and feel prepared for the journey ahead.
